# How to Generate Your Bitfinex Tax Report with KoinX

## Connect Bitfinex to KoinX

**API Key syncs your full Bitfinex transaction history automatically - no file exports needed.**

    ## Generate your Bitfinex API key

    <Steps>
      <Step title="Log in to Bitfinex">
        Go to [bitfinex.com](https://www.bitfinex.com) and sign in to your account.

        Click the **profile icon** in the top right corner and select **API Keys**.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Create a new API key and set permissions">
        Click **Create New API Key** and set the required read-only permissions.

          Enable read-only permissions only. Never enable trading or withdrawal permissions on an API key connected to a third-party service.

      <Step title="Confirm via email">
        Bitfinex will send a confirmation email. Click the confirmation button in the email to activate your API key.

      <Step title="Copy your API key and Secret Key">
        Copy both your **API Key** and **Secret Key** and store them securely. The Secret Key is shown only once.

    ## Connect Bitfinex to KoinX

        Log in to [app.koinx.com](https://app.koinx.com) -> **Integrations** -> **Add Integration**.

      <Step title="Select Bitfinex">
        Search for **Bitfinex** and select it.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Paste your keys and import">
        Paste your **API Key** and **Secret Key** into the respective fields and click **Import Now**.

      **Done.** KoinX begins syncing your Bitfinex history. Large accounts may take a few minutes.

    Once your Bitfinex data is in, head over to [Tax Reports](https://app.koinx.com/tax-report) on KoinX - your capital gains, income breakdown, and country-specific crypto tax report are ready for you there.

      * **Email confirmation is required** - Bitfinex sends a confirmation email after key creation. The key will not work until you click the confirmation link.
      * **Secret Key is shown once only** - copy it immediately at the time of creation and store it securely.
      * **Read Only is required** - keys with broader permissions may be rejected by KoinX as a security measure.

    Read Only permissions only. This gives KoinX access to your full transaction history without the ability to place trades or move funds. Never generate an API key with broader permissions for a third-party service.

  <Accordion title="Why does Bitfinex require email confirmation for API key creation?">
    Bitfinex sends a confirmation email as an additional security step after creating an API key. You must click the confirmation button in the email before the key becomes active. The key will not work in KoinX until this step is completed.

  <Accordion title="Will Bitfinex show my Secret Key again after I leave the page?">
    No. Bitfinex displays the Secret Key only once at the time of creation. Copy it immediately and store it securely. If lost, delete the key from API Keys and generate a new one.

## Troubleshooting

    Confirm read-only permissions are set and the email confirmation link was clicked in **Bitfinex** -> **Profile** -> **API Keys**. Delete the credentials in KoinX and re-enter both values carefully - copy directly from Bitfinex to avoid invisible characters.

  <Accordion title="API key is not working after creation">
    Check your registered email inbox for the Bitfinex confirmation email and click the confirmation button. The API key will not activate until this step is completed. Check your Spam or Junk folder if the email has not arrived.

  <Accordion title="Transactions are missing after sync">
    Ensure the transaction history covers the full period from your Bitfinex account creation date with no gaps. Trigger a manual re-sync from **KoinX** -> **Integrations** -> **Bitfinex**. If records are still missing, disconnect and reconnect with a fresh API key.

  <Accordion title="API sync keeps failing">
    Check the Bitfinex platform for ongoing maintenance. If the platform is operational, verify the key is still active under **Profile** -> **API Keys**. Regenerate if expired, re-enter credentials in KoinX, and trigger a fresh sync.

    Bitfinex API keys can become inactive following account security changes. Log in to Bitfinex, check the key status under **Profile** -> **API Keys**, and regenerate if inactive. Update the new credentials in KoinX under **Integrations** -> **Bitfinex** -> **Edit**.

    Check **KoinX** -> **Integrations** for duplicate Bitfinex connections and remove any extras. If a file was previously uploaded for the same period, delete those transactions before re-syncing via API.
